Institute Pengajian Islam Pergas (IPIP), or Pergas Institute for Islamic Education is a household name at Pergas. It was established to enhance Islamic knowledge within the Muslim community in Singapore. The institution receives a huge number of students every year ranging from fresh graduates from full-time Madrasahs, mature students who are also working professionals, full-time housewives, mothers and retirees, normally in their late 50s and beyond.
Pergas education department focuses on providing academic structure and promotes higher level education and lifelong learning. Apart from offering modular Arabic Language courses and Certification in Islamic Studies, it also renders programmes at diploma, degree and postgraduate level. One of its most sought after programme is the Bachelor in Islamic Revealed Knowledge & Heritage (BIRKH) which is a collaboration between Pergas and the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
IPIP’s part-time academic programmes are as follows:
SPI – Certificate in Islamic Studies (1 year programme, conducted in Malay)
SLPI – Advance Certificate in Islamic Studies (18 months programme, conducted in Malay)
DPI – Diploma in Islamic Studies (3 years programme, conducted in Malay)
BIRKH – Degree in Revealed Knowledge and Heritage (4 and a half years programme, conducted in English)
Pergas also sits on the preterm committee of Private Islamic Education Centre Committee facilitated by Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS). It aims to enhance Islamic education in Singapore to achieve higher standards.
